Anyone know why the yahoo search engine is so poor, or anyone got any idea how it ranks websites?

When using the yahoo.co.uk search, I search for the keywords 'dogs for sale' and it comes back with the number 1 result being a canine food company with a simple page that sells dogs for sale. Whilst it may be selling dogs for sale on that page, that is not the websites main purpose and the website is not very popular anyway. There are hundreds of dedicated pet websites whose main purpose is selling dogs and who have opitmised their site for that and got thousands of relevant backlinks.

I'm not sure if this is the case with other keywords in yahoo, but I would have thought that they should spend more time in improving their search results.

Anyone got any comments??? I think they are years behind google.

Well, that is the reason why Google is getting popular nowadays. Google is more accurate and working hard to improve what they have. Sadly, I think that yahoo is very slow in catching up, so do not bother about this and switch to Google for much better results.

Yahoo search results isn't that a hit but a share of users still rely on the search engine so it's still a good idea to target these small share. Observe your rankings in Yahoo and check which SEO strategy would work best for your website to rank in Yahoo.

I don't think its results are poor but you can say comparatively low then google because yahoo doesn't give you multiple searches results, and i also don't use yahoo for searching.

I don't think its poor, but google algorithm uses the trust rank to rank sites so the lists are sometimes quite different.
