Google for quite some time havent been using the meta tags to influence serps , yahoo have also now come out and said their algorithm is NOT using the meta tags for search results.

It was let out that Yahoo actually havent been using it for months but neglected to announce it to the public

So the Meta tag is officially dead.

Welcome to the real world, it's a question of time when Bing will do so, too.

I don't think so, when Google says that they don't do that, well its not true its just that Matt Cutts say it to trick Webmasters and now Yahoo announcing that one too perhaps they are just playing our game.

Why would they want to trick webmasters? To differentiate between the elite and amateur?

Well its simple as this, they do that so that webmasters can not directly manipulate they algorithm and they can still change some of it from time to time. Is that they wanted it to keep private for their own reasons.

For those of you who think that meta tags don't mean anything, look at the situation logically...

    NOTHING < something
NO meta tag < meta tag

If you don't believe what lucky is trying to tell you, do the simple math.

To be honest im with lucky on this one, ive always believed that google isnt telling the truth when it comes to meta data , Especially the meta description.

Google claim that the meta description is only used for small captions under the search results however one of my sites has jump 4 spaces in SERPs just by me adding more relevant keywords in my meta description.

if google doesnt use them how is that possible

There are lots of theories out there about what google does, no one will ever really know .

Actually, I don't really believe what did Matt Cutt's says, as luckyheart said Google is trying to trick Webmasters. By the way Angela and Paul are Moderator of Warrior Forum and those 2 are best SEO, those 2 had already the experiment about the optimizing a webpage without meta tags and they prove the words from Google is not true. Another thing is we should follow the standard of W3C that says we should have a meta tags each web page.

As we all know Google always change its algorithm to be able not to manipulate them by others. Crawling meta's is something that bots always do whenever bots see direction to a particular link, the spiders won't stop till he saw no more link who is linking to the first link he read. In that way, we can simply conclude that they still read our meta's and give time to crawl it because its always written in form of HTML and HTML is always been crawled from the beginning and its already proven.

I agree with you i also have the experience. Anyway title tag keywords tag and description tag if these three tags are 100% relevant to content and in short and descriptive form google must be give your site some ranking in SERPs.
