Wordpress all day long and all year. Joomla had its time to be fair, but Wordpress totally dominates any CMS out there. Not only is WP a powerful blog software, but now it can be manipulated to look like a normal website instead of a blog.

From my past experiences of using Wordpress for my sites, it has excelled and Google has loved it which helped me in my rankings on Google.

    Wordpress 1 Joomla 0.

I have used Drupal in the past, but much prefer Wordpress. It is a bit of learnin curve to move from one to the other, but has certainly been worth it to me. Wordpress is the way to go

Wordpress' primary function is to assemble content into a blog structure. There are plugins that do other things, but most of them support that blog structure. Joomla, on the other hand, is primarily a framework for managing content articles AND plugging in components that do a lot of different functions ie: directories, forums, support center etc. while using the Joomla framework for permissions, authors, users, etc. Does more and is more complicated

I'd choose Joomla any day. It's simply the best. So many modifications available.

They are both open source CMS systems and are very useful to use on your dedicated server or web hosting provider of choice

tried both. they are really mature stable apps, and are great. but to quickly put out a blog with many plugins and quick to seo, I vote for wordpress.

What kind of "mature stable apps" are you using? Looking to create a widget and syndicate more RSS feeds

I would not compare WordPress to Joomla. Joomla is much more development friendly CMS and could be used for much more complex project. I like WordPress a lot, but it is a blogging CMS.

Joomla was the result of a fork of Mambo on August 17, 2005. At that time, the Mambo name was trademarked by Miro International Pvt Ltd, who formed a non-profit foundation with the stated purpose to fund the project and protect it from lawsuits. The Joomla development team claimed that many of the provisions of the foundation structure went against previous agreements made by the elected Mambo Steering Committee, lacked the necessary consultation with key stake-holders and included provisions that violated core open source values.
WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.
The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when you’re ready for more there are thousands of plugins and themes available to transform your site into almost anything you can imagine. Over 25 million people have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they call “home” — we’d love you to join the family.

Wordpress - secure, lightweight, tons of plugins, easy to use

joomla - not very secure, bloated, tons of insecure plugins, difficult to use.

The joomla community puts security on the back burner, in the back seat, second place,,,, to how many modifications/plug ins they can offer. Its one of the classic quantity over quality examples.
