Wordpress is defiantly the easiest to use but it all depends on what site you are planning , Joomla or Drupal might be better for what you are planning to do with your site ?
I want to make a sports related website where I can blog about sports, have a photo gallery, some downloads that people can use, and then attach a forum for people to talk with eachother.
Ok well ive done the same with Joomla you can see here , you can see the modules ive used for image galleries etc . Personally i prefer Joomla and would probably recommend it if you are a beginner , mainly because if you can work out how to use Joomla you'll be able to use everything else with out a problem lol
Good for you , remember if you have any problem you can always post it here and one of us will try and help out
Wordpress - secure, lightweight, tons of plugins, easy to use joomla - not very secure, bloated, tons of insecure plugins, difficult to use. The joomla community puts security on the back burner, in the back seat, second place,,,, to how many modifications/plug ins they can offer. Its one of the classic quantity over quality examples.
Not necessarily true, Joomla is secure its just the people that use do not take the time to secure it correctly or keep up to date with the latest releases. Exactly the same as wordpress if you left that with out updating it , if an exploit is found your vulnerable. Granted Wordpress "out of the box" is pretty good but the same for the plugin's if someone wanted to make a malicious one or just one that hasnt been checked properly for holes etc and release it to the world exactly the same would happen. I suppose the only difference is that Joomla community wont really take care of you if the problems are caused by 3rd party components where you "may" get some help from wordpress. Ive never had one single problem with Joomla apart from being hacked not long ago , but again that was my fault for not updating the relevant stuff when i was suppose to :~
I think that Joomla is really secure. I'm using Joomla for a while, and I can say only good thinks about it. The only problem is that eat a little bit more resource like WordPress, but this is something correct, because have more functionality as well.
Hey, I'm new to Joomla as well . River, you mentioned that one needs to keep up with security, etc. Where can a webmaster find updates, along with a guide how to implement them?
Yeah you can look at the security checklist here : Joomla Administrators Security Checklist - Joomla! Documentation which gives you basic info on how to keep your joomla secure , also keep tuned to their site for new releases etc. To change the little image ( favicon ) you need to change the file called favicon.ico
Both are good but the Joomla is specially use for creation webpages when Wordpress is popular for blogs. Now it is depend on your purpose, What you want to actually create? Blog or site.
