Not only TriPHP. At any forum you go, all the users seem against PHPBB. They talk about vB, SMF or IBP. Why so?

I never used PHBB so I cant say I hate it. But when TriPHP Forum was first started the advice I got was to use SMF as the best free one.

I used PHPBB when I first started my forum. I think it's ok but VBulletin is better.

Members are more likely to join a VBulletin Forum than a PHPBB IMO

If you are starting a forum and are on a low budget, you can always take advantage of the free forums and then upgrade when you have made some revenue.

I believe, the forum OZZU still use PHPBB and it's a big forum

I started out one of my other sites on PHPBB and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, i was using it for nearly 18 months and the forum really started getting going, it was getting to the stage where having to spend hours to install mods and the time it took to do small tasks i was starting to look for an alternative.

Vbulletin was the only option imo although at first i didnt like it, now i realise what a massive part that vbulletin and vbseo brought to my forum, i dont honestly think it would be what it is today if i had stuck with phpBB

I used phpBB, vBulletin, SMF, IPB and according to me the best solution is vB but there's just a small problem: ISN'T FREE AHHHHHHRGGGGGG!!!.

i created a theme that cloned VBulletin for smf and phpbb. An average user would never no the difference .
Us poor folks need to do this. i have to clone the look or use a pirated version

My forum runs on SMf and it is free and was supplied by my hosting service so that is why I use it. I have not had any problems and it seems to work very well for free.
As for PHPBB I have never tried it so I do not know any thing about it.
The only other board I had used to run on YaBB , and that turned into SMF. :cooler:

Sorry for asking an off topic question but, may i ask if the skin you are talking about is available or if you did it for your own site? (I'm interested on it).

I have experienced using PHBB and SMF but I really find VB much reliable specially in imposing rules in links and spamming. But both forum platforms have their own merits.

I have seen too many phpbb forums hacked. And that is why I do NOT recommend it. One of the forums belonged to a good buddy of mine. It was a place for people in the local area to go post. It was a small forum where just about all of the members knew each other. And hackers destroyed it.

phpbb is very easy to use and user friendly. The only down side I can see is you have to install mods for everything and it is very time consuming.

I am not against phpbb but I actually like it, it is a great script for newbie forum owners.

I am using phpbb on my new general discussions forum but I do feel the pain of doing some things which can easily be done in Vbulletin.

So the simple answer is... PhpBB is for Newbies and VB is for Pros :)
