A lot of forums with forum games say their games are 'fun' and 'exciting' and 'addicting!'

They're not. They're just an easy +1 to the post count. Nothing more than that. They're boring and don't add anything meaningful; I guess you could say they even detract from the overall forum experience, especially when on most general chat forums, the forum games are like 25% to 30% of the posts.

I'm not saying on every board they are.

My problem isn't with having them; my board has a couple, but not an entire forum dedicated to it, but it's the fact that forum owners brand it as 'fun'... It just annoys me.

I have more fun posting in the main topics of a forum than forum games section as posting in main topics are more meaningful.

Some people think they are fun, they are like mind games, if you don't like those you probably won't like forum games either.

They say its fun because when the forum is active they can just post and by the time they refresh the topic or something they can reply again.

See, that's where it's just +1 to your post count.

But most administrators disable post count in forum games, so you cannot just get 5,000 post count in a day.

Some people find it fun like finding the last letter of the last word said then forming a new word, those are the true forum games. The "add 1 more number!!111" is just pure spam someone made up and I guess it hooked.

Yea, some of them are fun, if they are actually hard to do and get you thinking, but most are just the most random things that you could think of.

I agree -- however I'm referring to the fact that most people who label their forum games as 'fun' are the ones with 'games' like 'count by 5s' 'count by 100s' 'page creation time' and games like that.

I just add them because it's standard. I like playing in them myself sometimes. :)

Maybe more of them really addict to keep posting and have fun with any forum their join. I prefer to do that also and many my friends also like forum games. Yes, most forum have many post at forum games than others. But i can see many people also like to make a post at webmaster and PC forum.

A forum game can be fun (case in point, the hilarious Picture Battle stickied in the Miscellaneous Discussion forum of my forum), many aren't. Most of them are, as you say, +1 post count, though many people fail to extend the same criticism to topics that are supposed to distinguish themselves from the forum games, but only have a superficial difference; at many forums, though they may be split by subject, the topics are the same in spirit: one-liner, one-time response generator polls.

They do poorly in generating any meaningful interaction between the members, if any at all. They serve to up the post count, for whatever motivation the member may have for upping it, but fail to create an actual community. The forum accumulates human input, but not so much meaningful human input, and meaningful human interaction, if even interaction at all.

The introduction forum is a great place for +1 post count at most forums I've been to. The responses to introductions are typical, forming an easily predictable pattern, a "template" for response, instead of serving as a good one-stop place to learn about a member and to get to know him, a place where you can ask questions about the information he provided, or questions about him that hadn't yet been alluded to in his introduction. The introduction may as well be confined to the shout box, where posts are soon forgotten and eventually pruned.

My intro forum is unique in that it is "structured" to be the opposite of the type of intro forum I detailed in the above paragraph. Anyone interested in seeing how it has worked for me may view "The Immigration Center" forum at my forum (near the bottom of the index).
