Whats the difference between general desktop graphics and 3D gaming graphics?

    what do you mean by desktop graphics ? Most graphics that you might see on your desktop like an icon are not 3d. so that would be the main difference. gaming graphics would be 3D and might require more video memory to display properly .

    A computer built for gaming will have a high performance graphics card with its own memory and graphics CPU.

    A lot of desktops have whats called "shared memory" - where the system memory is used to process the graphics. This slows down graphic intense applications, such as games.
