1. I've started a massive SPAM purge, any accounts that have spammed are being removed, also for a short period new user signups are disallowed until the SPAM cleaning is finished.

What to do?

I couldn't come up with a vbulletin or IPB license to start this forum that I've been on hold to start unfortunately.

Anyone have some ideas what I should use now?

Just use SMF - Its easy to install, got loads and loads of mods and even more themes

If you did want to upgrade to vbulletin in the end then you can convert within minutes - I could recommend Forum hosting and support for starting or hosting your forum or website by G.C. Solutions for the hosting as well

You can use phpbb but I think they look a bit shit to be honest, plus everyone is using them and they are quite easy to hack into.

Smf have a really good forum as well, so you can get a answer for any question to be hionest

I have a server, as I am now selling VPS's and Dedicated Servers. As for SMF, the 1.1 look I really didn't like, SMF2 has a nice look. I'll see if I decide on it.

    Any other suggestions?

SMF2.0 is very good indeed - Great admin panel on it

Your right. I especially like how there is a Paid Subscription mod and 2 other mods built in.. I don't remember the rest of them off by heart.

PHPBB is hideous and HORRID to install modifications in my mind.

I would recommend SMF too if there is no other choice...but personally, ever since I switched my forum to vBulletin, I realised that there just ain't any alternative to it.

I will also recommend you to use SMF instead of all other forums script! SMF is more powerful and stablized open source program with ease of adding plugins!
