You must be creative and most importantly, knows beauty of art.
I think a designer must have a foundation in the fundamentals of graphic design and have hand skills no matter how proficient he is with technology (computer software) which are only tools to implement his thinking process and design abilities. Skills can be taught, layout, typography, Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, whatever, but the inherent sense of design and the ability to produce innovative graphics comes from being a well developed and knowledgeable individual who understands what design is all about, in all in manifestations. And practice, practice, practice. Some are just born more creative than others too. That's how the cookie crumbles.
i think the most important skill of a graphic designer is to make the imaginative things into more reliable.
A graphic designer in today’s day and age has to have a wide-ranging skill set. Along with the obvious grasp of design principles like contrast, balance, color and such and the knowledge of how to use the industry-standard software, many clients also expect designers to be developers, illustrators, strategists and more. I agree with most of these expectations (so long as they’re realistic); however, there is one specific skill that can and does, in my opinion, mark the difference between a good designer and a great designer: the art of clear communication.
Being able to visualize a design and then bring it to reality.
innovative thinking is the best skill of a graphic designer.
Creative problem solving
An understanding of marketing
An understanding of typography
Project management skills
Familiarity with other artistic/creative fields
all skills are indispensible for becoming a successful graphic designer.amonest all i think dedication is that virtue, without it,it is not possible to become successful in life.
