Can anyone please guide me about the terminology "Link Farming"?

Does it mean hiding the links with the background color or something like that?

A link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group.

Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamdexing or spamexing).

Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.

Search engines such as Google recommend that webmasters request relevant links to their sites (conduct a link campaign), but avoid participating in link farms. According to Google, a site that participates in a link farm may have its search rankings penalized. Links from related sites carry more weight than those from irrelevant sites.

    Let suppose, you have 4 websites A, B, C & D where:

    A is referring to B, C & D
    B is referring to A, C & D
    C is referring to A, B & D
    D is referring to A, B & C

The process of this linking is called link farming.

I am not clear about this.

Me too have 4 websites and I have linked or inter-linked them. Like my sms site has page "our network" where all my sites are mentioned, same thing applies here. I have all other sites listed here.

Am I doing link farming?

No no, I used 4 as an example. To make it a link farm we are talking about many many sites, not just 4. And It would be like a Porn site linking to a Webmaster Blog and then linking to a Gaming site - See what I mean? totally unrelated sites linking to each other and lots and lots of them. You have nothing to worry about with your sites jani.

Link Farm is a page that consists of little else but links to other sites and usually the sites listed have links back to the farm page. Its goal is to artificially boost rankings through link popularity and is consequently at risk of penalty or ban.

Link farming - Search engines such as Google consider link farming as a form of spam and have been implementing procedures to banish sites that participate in link farming, so the term link farming has garnered negative connotations across the Internet.

A link farm is a website (or a group of websites) created only for the purpose of increasing the link popularity of another site by increasing the number of incoming links. A link farm usually looks like a regular web page, but the majority of the content is hyperlinks -- often random and unrelated -- to other websites.

A link farm is a website set up with the sole purpose of increasing the link popularity of other sites by increasing the number of incomming links to those sites. They are typically made up of long lists of unrelated links. Some link farms are created as networks of sites that contain numerous links to one another.

Link farming means getting a backlinks from another website or through your internal page for the main website.
