    I would choose .net

I would not go for .org or .info unless my sites are either about "Organization" or about "information".

Exactly, If .com is not available for my desired domain name I will go with .net

.asia.com is also a nice domain name extension and eurodns offers it on nice conditions at low prices.

I like the .ws and other these kind of extensions only if they are used wisely, like this

    www.webdesign-ne.ws

Do you see how wisely they used the .ws extension with a word "news" :)

Now no one can forget the site name.

That is a nice one, indeed. Interesting combination... I will keep that in mind and make use of it in another context and combination...

For me, the order of preference is:

    .com
    .net
    .org
    .info

Btw Jani, nice combination but I must admit I didn't see it from the beginning, and after I saw the explanation for ne.ws I said to myself: of course, damn!
    :p

Like Jani says, I agree: Whenever you have the chance you should make interesting combos or someone else my get to that domain and buy it.

The only option I would choose right now is .net
.info is definitely out because from what I hear, the low price of registering means that spammers are always taking advantage to register cheap names.. leading to google downgrading of the tld.

I would use .net or .org, but for my blog I use .ch because it fits in with the name...BlogTech, think you can work out what I mean :p

But yeah, for general purpose, if I couldn't use a .com would be a .net or .org.

I typically only go for .com, .net or .org (in that order). Some of the others sound a little sketchy to some people; I want .ie, though because my name is Brie. I could maybe have iambr.ie or something if I establish some connection with Ireland. lol.

I have been using .info for proxy sites. If I had more important sites where the .com wasn't available I would use .net. I haven't used .us yet but I might.

    Yes, it's interesting combination.
BTW, it's called "domain hacks". There's a lot of services (for example domaintyper.com), that can help you make up hack for your domain.
