Some people are saying that vBulletin is getting surpassed by a free forum software, SMF. What are you opinions on this?

Personally, SMF 1 was no where near vBulletin in my opinion, but SMF two might be, but vB 5 will be better for sure than SMF 2 is.

Well, seeing how SMF is free and vBulletin is not I can see how it would beat vBulletin some.

But as time progresses on SMF forums, you see a lot of these SMF forums upgrading to vBulletin anyhow.

I dont really see how SMF coud takeover vBulletin. vB has so many features and stuff and SMF lacks a LOT. I guess because its free?

we will see how SMF 2 effects this battle.

I've been hearing arguments that SMF can do whatever vB can do, and what it can't do, there is a mod for it. So, it might actually be surpassing vB, the paid forum. That would be a HUGE deal for SMF to become better than vB, but I just hope they don't become paid.

I say that vB Is way better. I have worked with them both and its just much easier to use vB.

vB is way better than SMF.

I dont think SMF would ever get to the great heights of vB.

I just find it funny how people can use SMF.. I lost 3 site to that software.. Do me a quick favour.. If you can set up a fake site (or are willing to test on your own...) create a backup and try and restore it... Did it work? Didn't think so!

vBul is the BEST!! (thats if you can't afford IPB.. Not the free one!)

In my opinion, you choose what you want it to do. If you want to run large community forums that get tons of traffic for a well known global business, overlook smf and ipb, and go vB.

IPB in my opinion is too slow. However, i will be using neither of the available softwares when my Xenon Board comes out.

Ill be switching to it ;)

Well i have never really had the chance to admin an IPB board (appart from the 1.3 free) so i don't really know how good it actually is..

And yes i will be giving Xenon a try to just to see how it is :D

the IPB 2.3 admin panel is good, but the performance overall is bad.

Glad to know you'll be giving xenon a test run ;)

Think you could hook me up with the Alpha version of it? I could look through it and look for bugs.

But, their admin panel in 2.3 is amazing, but their features are the same as vB, and installing mods and themes is a pain in the ass.

there will be some beta versions released free. anything after that will be paid.

when the release candidate comes out, it'll be about $30. Thhen the final release will be around $70 because we would have applied a ton of fixes and stuff to it.

Let's try to stay on topic, we can start a new topic about his forum if you want, but for now, stick to vB and SMF.
