PC World - I've been writing Linux guidebooks for some time, and it's fair to say that most people who buy my books are Windows users looking to make the leap to Linux (or perhaps just wondering what the fuss is about).

The marketing strategy by Microsoft is world class and we talk about survey it projects the most of the users are belongs to Windows. Recently we saw release of windows 7 and have good review by audience. I agree with the fact that students in general are using Linux for academic or to learn Linux. The current statistics goes with Windows.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I personally don't give a flux for tux as a desktop OS. The only one that worked so-so was Mandrake, now they don't distro it any more.
Don't get me wrong, was into unices for years, been sysadmin for ISPs and banks, into telecoms and what not from plain Linux, trough BSD flavour to HP/UXes and Solarises, but no, thanks - linux as a desktop OS cannot fit into what and how I need it.
Linux can do fairly good for a server though.
BTW your link's broken.

I like linux as an open source alternative to Windows...even though I like linux I don't know as much as I should know...the primary use of linux would be on my server and I farm that kind of work out typically... I know linux has been around forever but it hasn't reached a "critical mass" that it needs to have that much needed rapid growth...

BTW what would be some of the benefits of using a Linux OS for my home PC? If there were some compelling benefits I might consider a dual OS.

The biggest benefit is that it is free.
The rest is personal...my opinion is that I do prefer windows for the Desktop. When on the server side - definitely at least Linux ( if not genuine Unix ).
