I would say .com. When you say "Visit Decent Discussions" you think .com.

My favorite is definitely .com. If .com is not available I might buy .net but not others.

Domains extensions doesn't have any relation with SEO according to my knowledge.

    Curious of something..

I know that there is no difference whether it is like .com, .net, etc.. but do you think there would be any difference if SEO and PR with a co.cc vs .com?

I like domains like .me, .to, .it Because of possibility of getting a domain name like. capture.me, go.to and do.it. but .com is still most used.

    Hi,

I think the world is .com If you try to brand the name .com is automatic. Now for SEO friendly I really don't think that matters.

I use .com for everything possible. It's the standard base for most corporate websites that I know of.

The best domain extension is obviously .com and everybody (well almost everybody) wants to get .com domain if it is available.

.com is the best, unless you are a local business (say for UK .co.uk would be best). Always best to have both though.

And of course it matters for SEO, it would be silly to think otherwise to be honest... A .com will have preference over a .me - a common misconception is that .me is a "personal domain" but in actual fact: ".me is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Montenegro." - From Wiki. It's just been rebranded as the personal domain to generate some sales.

If your searching from the UK, a co.uk will be much more effective than a .de and so on.

Depends on where you live and which language you writ ein, I suppose. If you target a UK audience and all your backlinks are coming from uk sites, then a co.uk extension might be better than a .com

.com is the best and is also cheap when compared to .net and .org,.in and if you are a resident of UK then .co.uk is the best and affordable. These both are popular and work well anywhere.

It depends how the owner wants to make use of it. If the main focus is the Global audience a .com domain name is mostly preferred. However, if a business wish to target only a specific country, then a country code top-level domain (ccTLD) such as .uk or .us can be used.

Generally .com extension is the best option to choose then other extension if you are not targeting a specific country.

well for me its definitely .com but it depends on the nature of your work too. if you are running an organization or NGO like something your domain should be .org and if your work is intended only for India then you can go for .in
.net can be used for educational institution's websites

I agree that you should match the domain name with the intended public of the website (when it comes to local extensions). I have seen incompatibilities in both ways - a site targeted for global audience that had a local extension and the other way round, a website that had its content in a rare language but had the extension .eu (which led to the searches in that particular country resulting in different websites, even if the keyword ranking was fine).
You can find some further reading about other types of extensions on glenwoodfin (dot) com (slash) seo (slash) is-com-the-best-domain-name-extension-for-google-search-engine-ranking (sorry for the ortography...)

If your website is for global, I recommend you to choose .com, some domain names are chosen for specific organizations and groups like .org, .net etc.

If your service/business is for local area, choose country specific domain.
