I don't know if other webmasters have noticed buy Yahoo back links checking is far more sophisticated than Googles, its regularly updated, the back links are arranged in order of site importance and it lists far more sites than Google's back link tools.

Yes temi, you are absolutely right. Therefore I use Yahoo! explore for checking the IBLs.

All you have to do is to visit https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com and type the url of your sites into the form. It will show you the number of indexed pages, and the inlinks.

Yor will see this displayed text "If you want to track a Site, add it to My Sites". I have expereinced that this option also works. After I authenticated a site it improves the SERP. It could be only a lucky fluke, but I don't think so.

I use both Google and Yahoo to check my backlinks. But I agree that Yahoo has the upper hand here. Yahoo shows more results than google.

    I'm not sure I understand.
    Google may show 50
    yahoo 500
    and msn 5000

Each one of the engines approve and add backlinks different.
Yahoo and msn are lenient. I think google is far more advanced than the two.
It only adds related backlinks or known directories "most of the time".
That is one of the many reasons why google blows the rest of the search engines out of the water.
Google updates all the time it just may not be seen by the naked eye.
So in other words if you want to explore useless backlinks that are not helping your site any than use yahoo or msn .

I use alexa and google for checking backlinks. I have found alexa's service quite good. I have never tried out yahoo. But since you people are saying that it is good, I will check it out.

Sometimes google does not updates it backlinks for 2 - 3 months, while yahoo seems to update on a regular basis. And as for counting the total number of backlinks, I think yahoo is a lot better then google.

True. That is way Yahoo shows a lot of backlinks than Google, they update from time to time.

    True.

Google pick only those related to your niche and count it as backlink unlike Yahoo they show up everything, as in everything that you have posted and been into.

For backlink checking purposes, I use Yahoo siteexplorer, Alexa sites linking in and backlinkhunter. :)
