Ive ran quite a few forums in the past couple of years and have to say that the ones that i built from scratch and never used paid posters on have done far better.

I always think that a paid poster is so easy to spot, but do people actually care ?

An interesting convo i saw the other day was two people arguing over whether the quality of posts on a forum was important when a forum was starting out.

Whats do you think ? personally if i saw a forum with crappy posts i would go and post but i know some peeps are different .

Yeah im not a fan of paid posters my self to be honest , however they can provide a little more entertainment for the hours that people arnt making proper posts.

Ive only used them once on all the forums ive had and it was semi successful

Hmm what would be the point in paying someone to post on a forum ? surely a forum is a place to communicate and learn from ?

The main Purpose of them is to start a forum off , most people wont post on a forum that isnt active or hasnt got any posts in it. This can be a way to get things going although i think it needs to be carefully managed and only works with some Topics

Well i think if someone opens a new board (of course empty) and looks for some traffic then paid posters are a valid option...but once the board grows or reaches a decent traffic isn't a need anymore. What i mean is an Admin could "buy" the firsts 100 or 200 posts of his(her) board just to show the people a forum with some activity, then it's up to him (her) to continue developing the traffic and new sing ups...I paid for some posts when my board was brand new (and of course empty at all) and one or two times a year when traffic goes down (for example on summer's vacation and Xmas)...

I understand the reason of paying people to post so that your forum seems to have some members and some traffic. I don't see anything wrong with it but I would not do it. I would rather try to build up some real members , of course that is not an easy task.

And you are right dude (i mean: as a forum Admin you are free to take any way you choose), my point is that usually on forums (brand new forums without activity) you can see contests, freebies and offers to atract new members/sign ups, so at the end is the same thing (according to me) that paying a poster). Of course once you reach some traffic from search engines, from other forums and sites and activity grows then isn't a need anymore paying posters.

Of course that's my personal opinion :):

yeah paid posters can be hired initially, to bring up the forum because no one will post on an empty forum. Just make sure when you buying posters ,choose guy who have extreme knowledge in the subject you want!

i would agree with your this comment, paid posters help a new forum to get boost so that it do not look like an empty forum. and yea if not carefully managed then it may not show good effect. Once the forum gets active with good members and traffic then there wont b any need for paid posters

If your gonna spend the money, why not have a posting contest between your already active members. That way your money goes the members of the community instead of strangers.

I have never hired paid posters, I can however see a use for them.
