well there are still websites that are just like an outdated brochure with menu buttons hanging around the sections and content that doesn't satisfies users appetite. what is surprising is that there is so much of information available in the internet about web designing and also the requisite resources much can be made out of it.
Krisov, You have raised a valid point but I find so many people out there who are not willing to change. They just have a mind set that their site is good enough and that's the end of the story. They won't listen to any thing else.
Many ugly websites generate good revenue with google adsense and they would not change the design only because this is the trend. On some custom php scripts, coded few years ago, you need to change everything if you want to modify the design, so website owners will not invest in this, because this could be very expensive.
There are several reasons for not revamping or changing these outdated websites. 1.As mentioned above most of them are done for getting revenues how ugly the site looks doesn't matter to them. 2.The content i have seen many sites that have good content but the looks are bad but they are getting their visitors. 3.Some of them are closed so the webmaster doesn't even bother to change it.
Many websites just get forgotten about and left out-dated or half-finished. The worst thing is when you click a link and find a "Page under construction" message!!
Many of small companies website are not updated frequently. They just want a web address on there business card to show
I have a friend who has this website more than 10 years old with very old interface, I have asked to include new technology / methods in his website like building a social network type site with more social interaction but he is continuously refusing it. He says it is getting him good number of visitors and he is doing great on adsense so that's enough for him. He even isn't adding the social bookmarking options or twitter / facebook buttons to his website.
Precisely, so why go for a change if you have good traffic to your site? If your site's ranking is good you don't have to change anything.
Ugly looking websites make more adsense revenue, because visitor do not read the content just click and go away. Personally I add such sites to my adblock list once I see, I never see again. Skimpy ppl in btw.
