Hi, I request some webmasters to give some SEO help for my site Numia, a free online accounting software for small business, freelancers and individuals. I did all off page and on page SEO and i got my site in the first page in google SERP for the " Free online accounting software" keywords. But i wonder why i dont get as much clients, as that of quickbooks, peachtree. Why people prefer paid software when ppl like us provide the same freely. And my page rank fell from 3 to 2. Sometime popularity counts and sometimes its not all about your PR rankings they are looking for if your site is new and there are site like you who is old enough to be trusted, definitely people will look after with them.
Maybe you are hunting the wrong Keywords to bring in the business , by being in the top 10 for that keyword how much traffic is it bringing you ? How is that traffic converting in comparison ? There is also a massive traffic differance above the fold of the page and below so if you are 6th or lower then your likely only getting around 1 - 5 % of the traffic that is actually hitting them keywords
People are using paid software because they are satisfy using them. You need to target them, write some good marketing articles, compare your software with others and show the world difference and tell them why they should use your software. I hope it will work for you.

I think even if you get this keyword "Free online accounting software" on first page first number of all three big search engines you will never get high number of visitors. Select keywords which are searched by people, only 880 person in a whole month search your keyword on Google, and out of these 880 majority prefer top 2 sites. In short change your targeted keyword, use any good free tool like Google Adwords tool to select right keyword. 2nd you have to make your profile and some brand name, your competitors have both so you also have to work on these.
Google keyword rankings should just be a part of your marketing strategy. Use forums, social media sites, and social networking sites to make your software visible.
CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) is a point you should consider from now. You didn't inform about the monthly visitors you're getting now. If visitors are coming but not using your products then you need CRO. Do the keyword analysis further to find out more keywords that you should target to get more visitors.
You need to choose right keywords for the targeted customers. I have analyzed this keyword "Free online accounting software" it has Medium search volume in United sites, but in Philippians it has low search volume. You need to optimize the keyword for your localized peoples.
