Logo and research go hand in hand as such logos that are quite successful are as a result of extensive research. There is a great amount of research that undergoes in the making of a logo design. The more the research that is done in making a logo, the more is the depth added to the success of logo.

What sort of research do you do when designing a logo? Isn't it normally down to a client brief rather than research?

Out of interest... how would you design a logo for my new website selling guitar teaching accessories?

agree, research is important, but you should also apply to the client for his requests.

When you talk about logo designing research, it includes nature of the business, industry to which it belongs, service offering and target audience. Every logo is designed keeping in view a particular theme. A professional logo is never designed just for the sake of designing, it requires a proper thorough research.

Logo is the most important part of visual identity of your company or site, IMO. Also, including your targeted keywords in your logo image via its alt attribute would be really helpful for SEO purpose. :)

    Thanks,

Unfortunately many people don't realize the worth of a logo. To them its simply an image however in reality your logo is much more then an image. It displays your corporate identity in your absence. It gives your company's business message to the rest of the world.

IMHO, a logo is not necessary to all sites. Some blogs can survive with a simple test logo and still gain recognition. However I do admit having your own unique logo, favicon does adds brand value to the site.

Logos are pretty important to your site's identity. Even with an abstract logo such as AT&T's, most people would probably say that logo symbolizes a globe, but as it is an abstract logo, it can be debated. That said, the logo is still instantly recognizable to most people as the AT&T logo, regardless of what they think the logo is supposed to depict.
