3 1/2 years ago I started a forum - within 2 - 3 weeks people were joining. Within a year there was a steady stream of new members and daily post.

1 1/2 years ago I started another forum. Almost nobody has joined, daily post are down to almost nothing, I might get 1 - 2 new members a week.

It seems to me that starting a website has gotten a lot harder then what it used to be.

If that is the case, i think try to invite people around you, like friends. Then Think of something very interesting that people will go crazy joining to your forum site. Offer something great that might spread the news to their other friends. Keep a very active promotion and put a campaign that will drive membership to the forum.

yeah i know what you mean , I could be the boom of all the social sites thats had this effect. Or i was thinking that maybe not trying as hard with the same techniques as last time you done it.

I remember working extremely hard with my first forum , i had no money to get it going and was constantly posting even if there were no replies. Now days i still work hard on them but ive got money and everything is money orientated, So instead of spending hours/days doing something on the site i would probably just pay someone else to do it now. Not sure if it has any relevance but makes you think

This is the similar case I faced long back. The only strategy I adopted is to attract online users with online earning promotional offers and gradually I concentrated on web forum contents and topics that grab maximum attention of online users. There are various areas you can cover actually. Some of them are job opportunity, current openings, current affairs, any newly launched product ,finance, latest news releases, games and disease etc. Also remember to target the specific audience rather than making your forum more general.

its difficult to start a forum but its more difficult to maintain and keep it active with lots of members, useful posts and lots of visitors.
I havent tried having a forum but i know some tactics ... you can hire people to register and post interesting and useful topics and reply as well for few $$ ... only if you have a good budget for sure
or else you need to do it by your own :)

anyways share your forum where you need some real members and increase posts then do write here ... i will surely help you out

Of course it is that way. It's the way meant to be in any industry. 10 years ago, you can find a lot of available .com domains at $10 each that are worth tens of thousands dollars today. ;) The more people getting in, the more competitive and less jewels left.

For improve the visitors you need to do advertisements like inviting your friends or invite through other forum by opening thread. Once the visitors can find more users in your forum he will definitely sign up in your forum.

I think that should not stop you if you want to start a forum and you are interested in the topics.
Life is as wavy as anything in the Universe, never constant, and the fact that things are not good right now doesn't mean they will be the same forever.

Nowadays there are more competitors around, more people are more aware of online business and many are rushing into it. Social sites are also a factor that may engage many people than them joining an empty forum...
