There are lots of hundreds of factors that Google used as their basis in their calculating of PR in a particular site. An exhaustive but technical explanation can be found in http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/.

Also, I think this thread will help you more, http://forum.triphp.com/google/3475-page-rank-3.html

luckyheart, you have right! Google PR depend of many factors, but the most important are the back links, and unique and quality content.

Finally, page rank has little to do with traffic, and something but not all to do with your position in the results.

No. It is infrequently updated, and on top of that, it is out of 10, creating an inaccurate measurement.

PR is suggest the quality of site & what are the actual traffic of the sites. I think on the basis of quality Google provide PR to any sites after 2 or 3 crawling Google provide PR.

I agree on this. I do little link building on my site and I'm focusing more on social networks like facebook and twitter. After 2 months my site gain PR1.:)

after the last PR update, i have doubt Pagerank doesn't have vital role ... i assume if ur PR goes up traffic should also go up. But i find its not happening that way

Yes it is genuine but Google do not update it externally very often so it is an unreliable measure of a websites success.

you can get good PR from your quality high PR backlinks.
and you get traffics from your SERP works means you promotion of your websites.
if you do good seo works for your website so you get good PR and traffics also.

PR is really just fools gold.

People place value in it because there are very few other metrics that can be used to judge the worth of a site from a third party perspective, but PR gives no guarantees about how much traffic a site has, or how productive that traffic is.

If you own a site that you want to judge the value of, then you're better off concentrating on how many conversions (sales, signups, etc) you get on that site.

If you are thinking of buying a site, then you are better off trying to evaluate the reputation of the seller, and also trying to get access to some reliable analytics and revenue data on the site.

If you are thinking of exchanging links with a site, then you are better off looking at the other sites that link in to that site, as well as the quality of the sites that the site links to.

Yes, Google's PR is genuine, because Google pay a lot from it.

Yes, PR is genuine but then you have to improve on your search engine position if you want to rank better and for people to "find" your website.
