Importance of meta title and page title?

Just wondering what is the importance of the meta title? I know that the page title is important for the search engine, but what about the meta tile?

and ... maybe there are still ( forsaken and abandoned from the mass public ) search engines out there in the web that support that tag, and this is not saying that maybe major ones support it ( the tag ), too...so why not use it ? No urban legends and SEO rumors go around, saying that it hurts anyone's websites.

I never use this tag <meta name="title" before. Should we have this in our website?

It helps search engine to visit your site upon single search which relates to your site. It can call the attention of bots to crawl you when you use it. Its one thing to do in SEO as on-page optimization thing.

I'm not sure if Google still follow meta tags and description , but just to be safe I will meta tags on my websites.

Your webpage will have a greater chance of receiving more click-throughs by placing targeted keywords in Meta Title that helps you in SERP ranking.

There is no such thing as meta title I think. The only meta is the meta keywords and description.

BTW you could have let the link in. And because I find it very unusable not to do so, I'm editing your post. The article deserves reading. If your motives are to have less PR dilution for your signature I think that this is not the best approach. Usability is essential, forums are mainly for exchanging information, and not providing clickable link is making a serious obstacle on that.
