How to run a directory? Some questions: * How often do you accept/reject entries (every day)? * Accept all or remove what you think is spam (more or less articles/links)? * Many or few categories? * Paid or free submissions? Anyone?
You need to allocate a resource for performing this task. 1. Everyday we need to approve the submission, if it looks like spam delete those entries. 2. Add many categories, refer some directories like dmoz, yahoo directory and add as mush as you can. 3. Initially free submission is the best options for promoting your directories then only you will get more entries. After some stage include the paid submission also.
It usually depends with what particular web CMS platform you're using for your directory. There are some format that can easily managed and lots of webmaster friendly interfaces. Developer for these usually sets up forum to reach out with their end users concerns.
I'm using PHPLd. I get around 100 articles/link submission a day. I find it difficult to see what's spam and what's not.
a interesting topic. I was thinking too in setup some directorie. But it should be easy to manage because we havent so much time here at work.. Which CMS is normaly used? I think to start you should copy some sites from DMOZ or other important directories in you niche. And you should do seo so that you become more visitors and entries.
a link or name? I just founded someones but I dont know which one to prefer. Their are some comercial ones too. But im searching something gratis.
