Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Nice one dude, just to add up, If you firefox get slow that's because of multiple plug ins or adds on, try to remove those add ons that not really used by you. Also try to unistall firefox then reinstall it again with the latest version. Hope this will work. It was happened to me before, then i just follow that, now my firefox return on it's original pace.

That was cool and really something else, i should have try it. @ nestrellejohn, i believe that removing some unused add on will help you load fast your FF but reinstalling is not advisable. I believe you just have to update it not reinstall it.

Limit your plugins and add-ons. Some add-ons run everytime you load a page.

Of course internet connetion has something to do with the performance of your Firefox browser, but that clarifies it for me. By the way, do those add-ons sometimes affect your loading time?

I use Tune-up Utilities for optimizing the speed of Firefox and it has an option where you can use pipelining.

Disabling Firefox addons that you don't use often, blocking flash content, and using a lightweight theme will also help speed up Firefox.

I would suggest you to remove some unused ad on so that you can load FF faster. You should avoid doing reinstallation. You are required to update it.

My friend once told me this kind of "hacking" to make firefox more faster, Type about:config and press "Enter", right-click in the window and select New > Integer. Type content.switch.threshold, click OK, enter 250000 (a quarter of a second) and click OK to finish.
