Transparent images are useful when you are not certain of the page background color on which your image will be displayed, or you intend to display your image in front of a complex background rather than a single background color. Can someone tell me how to make a transparent image? Thanks in advance.

You would use a gif image, and leave any part you want Transparent, empty (not coloured white)

    1. Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new file or open an existing file you wish to create transparency on. If a new file make sure the mode is anything but Bitmap.
    2. Select the Magic Eraser as shown in the image to the right.
    3. Once this tool has been selected click on the portion of the image you wish to make transparent. For example, the background if you wanted the background of the image to be transparent. If you're noticing that the edges of the non-transparent portion of the image is not clean in the Magic Eraser Options increase the Tolerance.
    4. After you've got the transparent background you want click Image, Mode, and selected Indexed Color. Change any settings you may want in the Indexed Color window and click Ok.
    5. Finally, once the above has been completed save the image as a .gif image for example mypicture.gif.

    You can use Photoshop
    1. Create a new document with a background of any colour
    2. Create a second (top) layer with your image and cut or erase the part of the image layer that you wish to make transparent
    3. Hide the background a layer
    4. Use 'save for web' and save as type .png (with transparency)

    Easy as!
