I must admit i used to submit to around 50 directories per week a couple of years ago, but i dont think ive submitted to a directory for about 14 months now, possibly longer.

Every now and then i pay someone to submit to some directories but thats about it

I also believe building links using social sites and forums are the way to keep your website well ranked, but it does worth to pay some one to submit to directories if you have more money than available time.

It all depends on what stage of the game your at. There are definitely benefits to submitting to directories but it's not a sure thing that you will get in. If you are just starting out I would suggest submitting to the directories. It's hard to submit "daily" because there are not a tons and tons of good directories. I agree with other posters that I would focus on link building with specific anchor text and social media, maybe even create a blogger blog.

Submitting to a directories today is not too special as it was before though you still get traffic and sometimes backlink from it. I prepare to submit at least 10 directories per day.

Although they are considered an old type of link building, they are still counted in collecting sites BL. 20 submissions for directories is enough for me.
I really don't like those directory sites that has a good PR, it takes months before your link become live. I prefer submitting to those new sites that automatically approved your sites.

I rarely, if ever submit to directories - overall, I think its a waste of time.

If I submit to anything, its a couple of select social bookmarking sites.

As i hadn't completely finished my site, the daily directory submission was very low. Now, that i am almost done i have started but the number of directories i submit my site daily depend on my available time. I can say about 5-10 at the moment, but i hope to increase that number...
