Well domain age is really a big factor in measuring the websites reputation. It says that the older your domain is the more trust you will get from search engine.

It's importance is a bit overrated. It helps but it's not crucial.

Webmasters agree that domain age is hardly a powerful ranking factor but opinions vary:
    1. it can be no factor at all;
    2. it can play only a single minor factor in the millions of other factors (but it still is)
    3. it matters a lot

    In one line

Google is not going to share its algorithm so no one can judge best about how domain or other things are important in SERP

For two years I positioned one of the web site for law firms. She had never been in the top 10, it was just about to appear somewhere on the internet, was visible in the lists, etc. ... At this Web page I built a small base seo, I linked it with statlink. In fact, 1.5 years links to this site didn't change. BL was a minor increase, if not zero - on a little here a little there - how to remember. Since the end of October, the site "swings" in the 8 - 15 positions in Google for quite interesting "legal phrase" and the traffic increasedseveral times. So let no one say that domain age, links, and content doesn't matter...

The age of the website is built up of how long the content has been actually on the web, how long the site has been in promotion, and even the last time content was updated. The length of time a domain has been registered is measured by not only the actual date the domain was registered, but also how long it is registered for. Some domains only register for a year at a time, while others are registered for two, five, or even ten years.

There is a certain amount of debate about exactly how important domain age is to your ability to rank well, but testing and experience by SEO professionals paints a pretty clear picture that an older domain age competes for rankings a bit better. In fact, Google has even stepped forward to tell us a little bit about the importance of domain age, though as usual they’re still holding their cards close to their chest.
Here’s the basics of what we know:
    • Domain age is a factor in determining Google rankings, and a part of our SEO.
    • Sites are significantly devalued for the first few months after Google first discovers them. It is extremely challenging to rank well for competitive terms in those first few months. In fact, some SEO professionals simply won’t work with brand new domains.
    • According to Google’s Matt Cutts, the difference between a domain that’s 6 months old and 12 months old is very small.

Once I study a SEO article it says that old domain name is a factor to get good PR in search engines but it should be relevant to the content the web site, Google like old domains but Bing (as its new and trying to capture the market) like it most.

Aside from the fact that google favors older domains, but heavily stresses the importance of seeking aged domains if possible.

Domain age plays an important role in SEO. Domain age is the age of website. If your domain is old, your site gets top rankings in Google. Domain age is calculated by domain creation and expiration date in Whoisxy.com.

Domain age can be useful in terms of maintaining a website which can have potentials of enjoying top ranks over the net, but provided that the old domain has been connected with an active website online during months and years of registration, and not just using parked addresses which have been deserted with no tangible web space, simply considered to be registered addresses but with no presence because domains always need to be attached to active websites online.

Domain age is an important SEO factor for your Google ranking. Among the hundreds of weighting factors that Google considers in determining how to rank search engine results is the age of your domain — in other words, how long that domain has been around

Massive, I believe! The older the domain, the more value and authority it will be given by search engines. What exactly goes with these kind of domains is trust factor. As if a business have a 10 year old domain and still keeps updating its websites. It means that business is quite worthy for people who are searching for services provided by it.
