How does alexa rank?

    Though Google is the primary search engine for most internet users, how did Yahoo become the first rank holder in Alexa ratings? How does Alexa give rankings to sites?

    Don't get your full attention on Alexa. Alexa's Ranking or rating is based mostly on the visitors having an installed toolbar on their browser. Apparently only Firefox is allowable for that plugins.

    Alexa uses its toolbar to rank the web sites based to the visit in your site. Its like an intentional spyware.

    I think Google is undoubtedly the only Giant on searching market but Yahoo is a comprehensive portal. So, it might get more traffics than Google. :)

    May be because Google is dominant in only search , but Yahoo has various services which people frequently use than that of Google's services ( other than search )

    well, currently google is top number one site on alexa ranking. while yahoo number 3 and facebook number 2.

    Currently yahoo has alexa rank 3 and google has1.Yahoo had more services when compared to google and many people use yahoo mail
