The best way to use Twitter in your business is by having followers in your target market. Fewer followers that are members of your target market are much more useful to your business than lots of followers who come from everywhere. How?

    1. Find people you know in your industry - Twitter permits people to use fictitious names or business names as their Twitter identity, rather than their given name. Use Twitter Search.

    2. Find others with the same interests or serving the same target market - Twellow.com, permits users to list themselves by industry and interests.

    3. Follow those in the same geographic region - If marketing to your local area is an important part of your business, find local members of your target market by using Twellowhood.com or TwitterLocal.com

    4. Get relevant recommendations - The free service, MrTweet.com, will provide you with info on recommended people to follow based on your current Twitter profile.

    5. Follow those who follow you - It's considered good Twitter etiquette to follow those people who've chosen to follow you.

    6. Look for keywords - Another way to find relevant followers is to keep track of people mentioning certain keywords in their Tweets.

    7. Find groups - Twibes.com permits you to find groups by industry and interest and join them and/or see the members of each group.

Mmmm, not sure about the whole twitter thing.
Getting followers is reasonably easy, as you say most you follow will follow back (aprox 50% as a rule of thumb)
However although its great to have hundreds or even thousands of followers by the very nature of increasing followers means your followers will be following a great number also. So will they see your Tweets or even bother to look?
when I got to 500 followers I offered $500 to the first person to reply...no-one did!
I then posted derogatory and racist remarks...nothing happened (Tweet has been removed).I would have expected the Tweet to be reported(crikey it was a BAD one!!!)

So I rekon its a bit over rated.
I guess some will come up with sucess stories but for me its not something I will spend alot of time with other than a Tweet here and there!

Yeah, i understand you but the whole idea of twittering is to have traffic in every twit you make. It means when you have a 500 follower and you twit you already have a 500 linking traffic for your site and the more you twit the more traffic you got with the possibility that having more additional followers too. Twitter is one way to promote your site though you can also interact with the other members if you like by sending them a direct message.

Are you actually making any money with twitter these days? I here most people tweet once or twice and then are never to be tweeted from again.

You can't prevent the short url of twitter because they set limits in their micro blogging and they do it with purpose for not to share their link juices for the members but can gain massive traffic from them.

That was so true, its relevancy will help you more to be crawled and get more traffic because of the same niche.

I agree that twitter is traffic machine when it treated properly, however, this time I more focus on recruiting as many as follower with purchasing some twitter follower before I offer them my product, what do you think of this, do you know any paid service "the good one"that can give me potential follower without smell like spam?

Not only adding number of followers is enough. You have to continuously retweet their tweets and you should participate actively.

as per my experience I am using twitter from 1 year and I have near about 1500+ followers but I get less traffic from twitter and if I am targeting my actual market then its ratio is very less So I will not go with network site that they can target actual market.
