You might also consider checking out the Page Speed Tool w/ Firebug in the Firefox browser which should provide you with with more suggestions on speeding up your site. You can create backlinks , the more back links you have the more chance the google bot will follow them links to your site .

Normally Google index new pages within one week but its sure your content should be unique. If you do social bookmarking that will be helpful to fast index.
If you place new content daily and have a lot of backlinks then you will be indexed fast. If you use wordpress you will be indexed in 2 minutes after posting an article.
I don't understand how they could check their index of the web [billions of pages (with tons of characters/words)]? Do they have a really strong computer that loops?
Build backlinks related to your topic, don´t do that blog commenting in any blog only do in related blogs and forums and other websites.

There are so many ways to get our site indexed faster like building backlinks on regular basis by blog commenting or forum posting. Do submission in allready indexed site, Pinging you each and every new post or content from pinging site, and submit you latest url directly to google as sazymi suggested.
First and foremost, you have to submit your sitemap to google webmaster. Then get more backlinks and update your site more often. This way google's spider will keep crawling your site and more chance of your page being discovered and indexed. But one thing also is that you can submit up to 50 urls to google webmaster to recommend those pages you want to get indexed.
