I came up this this concept in late 2008. I began applying it to my link building efforts in January of 09. Lately, I have been sharing this idea all over website and SEO forums. And I thought that I would share it here as well.

Unless you have visited my blog over the last 13 months (which most of you have not) you will have probably have never heard of Scratch My Back Marketing.

This link building process is basically about taking a non spam approach to the backlinks building efforts. The emphasis here is all about win/win marketing.

Scratch My Back Marketing is a backlinks building concept that involves the use of branding and advertising in the link building process. It requires that the backlink builder exchange useful content or comments in exchange for valuable those highly desirable Do Follow links.

This may seem like common sense to some of you but most do not consider these to be part of backlinks building process. And I believe that they are missing a great opportunity. Every comment reflect directly back on you and on your business.

The advantages of Scratch My Back Marketing can be huge for the website being linked too and for the website being commented on. Your link building comments, posts, and threads are certainly less likely to be removed if you add value and are not overly self promoting.

An additional benefit is that in the process it might actually produce new and increased website traffic and business. Increasing business after all is the ultimate goal, right?

The website owners get rewarded with relevant content so this way everyone wins. You win because for links aren't deleted. You just need to pay attention to the websites comment and posting requirements. Unfortunately, most do not. I see this daily on my blog.

Think about this for a while: Have you ever visited a site or blog from a comment that read "good article?" The answer is likely no. But it is possible that you might visit a website from someone who left a useful comment or post. I think just about every ones will follow a link from a great comment at some point.

Also think about this: for a while Have you ever done business with someone who left a comment that read "great post?" The answer again is likely to be a big fat no on this one.

Yes, if you play the numbers long enough you will gets links by taking the easy path. But each of those linking possibilities was a missed opportunity to promote your website to humans. After, its not the search engines that buy your products or services. Right?

Yes, adding useful content and comments does take more time but those comments are not likely to be deleted so you are further ahead in the long run.

I did a case study on this over a year and the results were incredible.

Interesting concept and ive actually seen people doing this , large companies asking me personally whether i need any guest blogers etc on one of my sports sites where they can just drop their link into sometimes. It didnt really appeal to me at the time as it was a gambling niche they were promoting however its defiantly something i would consider in other niches, might even try a bit my self .

    Great article , Thank you

I figure its all rather simple: There are thousands of web 2.0 social sites that would be more than happy to reward quality comments with Do Follow links. When so many take the low roads along the internet they ones who provide quality will prosper. They will stand out in a crowd. They are the ones who will generate increased traffic and business. I personally like to multitask. So if I can advertise and brand while I am link building well hen I'm a happy camper!

I have heard these similar replies a lot lately. And like I have said before, if you had not visited my blog you would likely have never been exposed to this idea. This is why I am sharing it wherever I have the opportunity. It has been a tremendous asset for my website.

Whenever I do link building, I make sure that I give useful insights for the benefit of me and to help the blog or forum owners to lessen useless comments or posts. In this way, it won't be hard for them to maintain the quality of their site too.

Yes, i heard it before and its actually a matter of give and take business thing. You have to do what they have to do with you otherwise the concept will not work.

Thanks for including our home pages title in your comment link. We actually rank on the first page for Google for just about about every combination of possible keyword phrases that is used in that page title. We have ranked # 1 in Google in our Tucson market for a very long time before we started using this.

However, when I started this marketing program we did not rank well for Local SEO Services or Local Internet Marketing Services for which we now rank # 1. We were no where close. What I can say as true is that this concept has vastly improved our presences on the first page of Google across a multitude of keyword phrases. It is likely the the main reason that I am still in business today! It also assists us in standing out in a very crowded field.

I actually used to target organic SEO when I started my business. Then I discovered that even though I had ranked # 1 for Organic SEO Tucson for three months that on one had every found my website using this term. I then switched to Local SEO.

I checked out your Organic SEO site (I tried to give you a link here but I don't have enough posts yet! ) I like the idea the Art of Ranking. That's very clever.

    Thanks,
    Urban

I would have to say that this seems like very good advice to me. As a professional I need to be very concerned about image, branding, and advertising. I also like to multi task so accomplishing several things at once appeals to me.

Yea, you need to be concerned about reputation no matter what business that you are in or that's how I see it anyways. It also can produce direct business.
