The call to create .xxx TLD is in the domain name industry again, I wonder if creating such domain will be a good idea. I personally think it is, it will help clean up mainstream domain extension and help schools filter out adult contents easily, what do you think?

I think it's a great idea too. The day it happens I'll be buying 100 or more names......getlaid.xxx....:D I don't understand the reservations that ICANN has about allowing this tld, it makes since, considering pornography is one of the biggest industries on the internet, it should have it's own tld.

I have a teenage daughter who i allow to use my pc when im busy cleaning now i have passwords on this and passwords on that for adult sites which i feel she should not be viewing and as a parent i know you cannot watch what your children are doing on the net all the time so if all adult related sites where made to use .xxx then it would make it easier for us by just putting a ban on the pc so not allowing .xxx to be viewed

I think what the big players in the adult industry are worrying about is not getting first choice on the profitable domains. As in everything in this game its all down to money.

Full story (part of it any way) is that there is a bunch of guys who are going round ICANN trying to get them to approve the .xxx domain extension for adult sites. The stories goes that if there is .xxx domain you will automatically know its and adult site so unscrupulous people luring youngest to visit adult sites will not be able to do that any more.
This proposal was put before ICANN a few year back, it was rejected. The .xxx sponsors has not polished their proposals again and pushed it before ICANN a second time, ICANN seem to be considering it, not final decision out yet.
But it seem this guys will not go away, they keep bringing the .xxx thing back again and again and I am thinking ICANN may just say yes to get rid of them.

I personally do not know if .xxx is a good thing or a bad thing. There are arguments for and against it.

Unfortunately, there are no 1 character domains....Some TLD's have 2 character, some 3, and some 4 as a minimum.

It would certainly be easy to remember. I think I'd go for x.xxx if there were a way to do it. But xxx.xxx would be almost as good. I bet xxx.xxx would be worth a couple hundred million dollars to the lucky person who registers it.

The internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has revived a proposal it earlier rejected to create an online red-light district, after adding stronger provisions to prohibit child pornography and requiring labeling of websites with sexually explicit materials. The use of the proposed ".xxx" domain name would remain voluntary, but any pornographic sites that choose to use it instead of the more popular ".com" would be subject to the new terms issued last month by ICANN.
The idea of creating an internet domain for pornography was first floated in 2001 and attempts to set up the system have met with resistance. The proposal was given approval in June 2005 by the ICANN. Final Approval was scheduled to take place in December 2005 but this was delayed until May 2006 when the proposal was abruptly dropped. The new proposal does not directly address any potential conflicts in laws, but calls for ICM Registry, the company backing it, to hire independent organizations to monitor that pornographic sites comply with the new rules.

Damn I can't type any more but I think I've typed sufficient lol
I personally think they should be allowed then it would be lots easier to ban/restrict Porn sites.

.xxx will be a good thing both for webmasters and for surfers. It will help in distancing adult websites from mainstream content. So, I am all for .xxx domains.

In a way .XXX TLD can help you filter porn sites which should not be accessible to minors. The problem is even if there is a firewall in place, proxy sites which can be used to bypass firewalls are widespread and accessible to anyone.
