A strange question I know but just interested to know if "bots" count as traffic in stats such as alexa etc?

Well not really, no. I guess the bots you're talking about are the likes of Search engine spiders? Your site is ranked at these sorts of places with the likes of links in from other sites, or by monitoring visits from people who may have the alexa toolbar installed.

Well, if the bot has the Alexa toolbar installed in it's browser, then sure...;)

When you are viewing your Awstats on cPanel, the unique visits will include visits from SE's, but as far as Alexa is concerned, your ranking will be based solely on Alexa users that have the Alexa toolbar installed and functioning in their browser.
