I have an established website that is well ranked in the search engines. The problem is, when I first created the site, I made the domain name my company name. Now I want to use a different domain name but not lose my rankings.
please tell me how to proceed?

what you mean by pointing to a website. If you have two domain and you want to keep only one then redirect other one and it wont create any problem. You will get all link juice and backlink to one website.

In that case..you can use both the domains if you have excess of content. If the content is less..301 redirection is the best way.

Setting up the zone files to the same webserver is ok, but is not the full story - it will just make the good old duplicate content issue because anything indexed with one domain will stay with it, you will need to dedicate one of them and make sure to redirect ( 301, or course ) with .htaccess on *nix platforms ( for sure there is also a solution for Do(n')t.NET and the likes on windows ) the whole domain pages to land on the one of choice.

    Hi,
Using two domains pointing to the single website will lead to duplicate content issue (mirror sites). This may penalize your site. I think, a 301 redirect may help to overcome the problem.

Make sure it's a permanent redirect 301 or you will have a duplicate content issue.
