    Hey,

Is it illegal to post screenshots of other sites or not? For example a step by step guide to buying a domain on namecheap, or do you need the sites permission.

    Regards,

    Josh

There shouldnt be a problem really however there could be a risk that they ask you to take them down i suppose , but at that point you just need to do as they say and then figure out another way of doing it.

However they wouldnt have a problem with it providing you are not in direct competition with them i would think ( which your not so you should be fine)

Just look into that the website via which you take the screenshots is not dodge. Sometimes the images make the forum show up as "Reported attack from the site" due to some other websites link within the website. And then we have to go through the whole recent posting areas to get the error removed.

Most of the time, it is not a problem. So go ahead. :)

The reported attack site error on a website isnt because of a link or image its because there is malicious software on the server that is hosting the site.

However that has nothing to do with that Nut was asking lol :p

Well, if you embed the image within and is from a website with malicious content, it will always show the website with that image on as a reported site.

I had come across this before and i had to break through a few posts to get it out of the website.

The only way it could do that is if the image was hosted on the server ( so could be an attachment etc ) but even then the forum should be setup with the correct security measures to prevent that.

It can't be attachments as there are restrictions with the file types. So only an external website links can do this as far as i know. :)

Make sure the images or content (what ever you are taking screen shots of) are not copyrighted. If they are, you need to ask for permission.

Ethically it is it illegal to post screenshots of other sites. Though nobody pays too much concern towards it, but this may lead you in serious issues.

I don't think the website would have a problem if they are not in the same business.
But still, you may contact them for the permission.

It's always best to ask for permission and I'm sure in most cases you'll get it. Basically they should be happy as you are helping their customers to use their site and in this way it's free adrvertisement for them.
