Ive just been doing some checks on how many pages my sites have indexed ,plus a search with some other sites related to my niche and there has been massive increases in Indexed pages in google .

So much so that its gone from around 10,000 upto 60,000.

Very pleased about this however i cant help thinking maybe google have included their supplemental index in that number because there hasnt been any large increase in traffic to show the effects of more indexed pages

    What do you think ?

Perhaps but Google bots is not a visitors so gaining traffic will not be possible through this. Fast indexing of Google will can help only when a particular querie occur and that's the time that the stored information from Google will based to what he index that can be possibly turn into traffic upon visiting the related searches of a searcher.

Probably because they are submitting a sitemap to google and the other search engines.

Google is good at crawling sites, but its not perfect. I have noticed that forums that do not submit a sitemap have fewer pages indexed. Forums that submit a sitemap get a lot of pages indexed.

At one time my main forum had 290,000 pages indexed. In April 2009 I messed up my sitemap for about 6 weeks - and did not know it. Google delisted about 260,000 - 270,000 pages. Here it is 5 months later and my forum still has not recovered.

Submitting a sitemap is very, very important to getting a lot of your pages indexed. Especially on large sites.
