Haha, this is funny,asdfghjkl, because even 3-way exchange are out of date, and they are even newer as approach than the one-way link exchange.
Nevertheless, if you are having really topical, contextually related link partners, then link exchange with them ! Nothing can beat and downgrade the link exchange when it is meaningful; I've even watched a video with Matt Cutts ( he's the manager of the Google's spam team ! ) in which he said that Google is paying the needed attention on such links that make sence for the human user as well - i.e. which are topical, related in meaning and niche of activities.
On the contrary, if you do link exchange with unrelated sites you're simply doing downgrade on the quality of your site, search-wise.
